As Fraud Prevention Month unfolds, Integris Credit Union is committed to empowering our members with knowledge and tools to safeguard against common scams. Our Risk Management team has identified some common scams within our community, and we’re here to equip you with the information you need to protect yourself.

Common Scams to Watch Out For:

Romance Scams: Be cautious when forming relationships online, especially if they ask for money or financial assistance. Fraudsters often target individuals through dating platforms, gaining their trust before requesting financial aid.

Text Scams Impersonating Friends or Family: If you receive a text from a friend or family member asking for money unexpectedly, verify their request by calling them directly. Scammers may impersonate loved ones to exploit your trust and generosity.

Impersonation of Staff or Businesses: Scammers may pose as legitimate businesses or organizations, including financial institutions. Always hang up and call back using a verified number to confirm the authenticity of the request. Never provide personal information or click on links in unsolicited emails or messages.

Quick Tips to Protect Yourself:

Verify Requests: Always double-check requests for money or personal information, especially if they seem unusual or out of character. If you get a phone call from someone asking for personal information, hang up and recall the business or personal number the person claims to be calling for and verify.

Be Cautious with New Friends: Exercise caution when forming relationships online, and be wary of individuals who ask for money or financial assistance early in the relationship.

Avoid Sharing Login Credentials: Keep your login credentials secure and never share them with anyone, including friends, family, or strangers.

Legitimate Checks Never Emailed: Legitimate institutions will never ask you to verify your account information or login credentials via email. Be wary of any emails requesting this information and contact the business or person the email says they are.

Verify Before Clicking: Before clicking on links in emails, texts, or pop-ups, verify their legitimacy by contacting the sender directly using a known and trusted method.
