Integris Credit Union Honouring National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

Unceded Dakelh and Secwepemc Territory – September 30 is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and a new federal holiday. In support of Truth and Reconciliation, we are honouring this day by closing all of our locations at 12:30pm so that all of our staff may come together to focus on Indigenous learning.

“Integris is committed to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion because it aligns with who we want to be as a business. Our commitment aligns with our cooperative values, our vision, and our pledge for social responsibility. We believe that through a collective endeavour to honour the intent of the day Integris will set a leadership example for our staff.  Our desire is to support our teams and communities on their own individual journeys of Truth and Reconciliation. Through leadership, such as providing opportunities to facilitate Indigenous learning, our desire is to create an environment that will serve community better. One of the Co-operative Principle that sets us apart is People before Profits – as people we are committed to Truth and Reconciliation,” says Alison Hoskins, CEO of Integris.

The establishment of a National Day for Truth and Reconciliation as a federal statutory holiday is in response to the 80th call to action from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission: “We call  upon the federal government, in collaboration with Aboriginal peoples to establish, as a statutory holiday, a National Day for Truth and Reconciliation to honour Survivors, their families, and communities, and ensure that public commemoration of this history and legacy of residential schools remains a vital component of the reconciliation process.” The day coincides with Orange Shirt Day which started in 2013.

Today, in addition to a day of Indigenous learning, we are releasing our statement on diversity, equity, and inclusion and pledging to our members and communities our commitment to Truth and Reconciliation.
