During the COVID-19 pandemic, touchless transactions have become the norm for most people and businesses. Recognizing this, and to meet the needs of our members, we have increased the Tap Limits on our Membercard Debit Cards to $250/transaction to a maximum of $400 effective November 2nd.

Previous LimitsNew Limits
$100 per transaction$250 per transaction
$250 for consecutive purchases$400 for consecutive purchases

For the TAP limit changes to take effect members must make TWO (2) purchases at TWO (2) different locations by inserting your chip and using your PIN.

Example:

Nov 3 – You use your CHIP and PIN for a Tim Horton’s coffee (1st use of CHIP/PIN)
Nov 4, 5, & 6 – You use your TAP at Tim Horton’s each day (does not count to activate)
Nov 7 – You use your CHIP and PIN at Save On Foods (2nd use of CHIP/PIN)

How Do TAP Cards Protect Me From Fraud?

Tap card transactions are processed through the same secure networks used for all other point of sale (POS) transactions (Visa, Mastercard, and Interac).  Each transaction has a unique, encrypted code that changes every time the card is used.

By not inserting the card into the POS device, you are protected from potential skimming devices that fraudsters may have embedded in the device.

While there have been reports of ‘electronic pick-pocketing’ – where a fraudster with a card reader/smartphone can read the information on the card – tap cards are embedded with multiple layers of security to protect members.  The security features include:

  • Short Range – tap cards only work within a short range of a retail terminal
  • Encryption – use international EMV chip standards and advanced cryptography
  • Limited Information – only includes information like language preference, card number, and other coding. A member’s name and bank account number are not transmitted
  • Zero Liability – in case of fraud, you won’t be held responsible and will get your money back

What Are My Responsibilities when I have a TAP Card?

While tap cards are safe and secure, there are steps that every member should take to protect themselves and their card:

  • Report a lost or stolen card as soon as you know it’s gone
  • Protect your PIN – don’t share with anyone and pick a PIN that is not easily guessed
  • Make it a habit to regularly check your transactions online or in the monthly statement – report immediately to Integris if there are any suspicious charges
  • Never give your card number out over the phone or Internet
  • Remember: Integris will never ask for personal information such as credit card number, expiry date, PIN, or the security number on the back of the card over the phone.
  • Never leave your tap card unattended in your car/house/work
  • When travelling, carry your cards with you or make sure they are in a secure location such as a hotel safe

What If I Am A Victim Of Fraud?

If your tap card is lost, stolen, or you have suspicious transactions on your account, contact your local Integris Branch as soon as possible or reach out to our Contact Centre. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out – our Fraud Squad is here for you.
